León, Gto., May 27, 2017.- The Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), held the presentation of the democratic culture divulgation notebook No. 36: "Democracy, populism and elitism", of the National Electoral Institute.
The guest was Dr. Luis Daniel Vázquez, who made an analysis about the transition of the democracy in Mexico, having as referent the great elites of the nation and the surge of populism as a solution –which he considered promising—to the problems of the nation.
"The text's central idea, is that there is a more focused political-economical elite, which is generating many limitation in the efficient exercise of people's rights, and the expectations we had on democracy. The controls we had on the government are neutralizing; each time there is less State of Law, more corruption, more impunity, more simulation and this endangers the democracy, which can generate openly populist governments", declared the scholar.
Dr. Luis Daniel Vázquez is professor-researcher in the Latin American Faculty of the Social Sciences Mexico (FLACSO for its acronym in Spanish) and has studies in Law, Political Science and Political Sociology. Also, he is a member of the National Researchers System of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT).
The event had the support of Dr. Teodora Saa, and Dr. Armando Chaguaceda, both professor-researchers of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities of Campus León. During their intervention, they complemented the analyzed by the speaker, and provided comments that gave a sociological and political feedback, with the objective to offer a wider panorama.
To finalize the presentation, Dr. Alex Ricardo Caldera Ortega, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, handed a recognition to the speaker and the commentators. Likewise, they gave free copies of this notebook to the attendants.
