Salamanca, Gto., May 26, 2017.- "We obtained the first patent in United States for the University of Guanajuato, even if we don't know the commercial success it will have. But the main point for me is: yes, you can do, from Mexico, science; and obtain international patents", assured Dr. Jorge Ojeda Castañeda, who remains in the Level 3 of the National Researchers Systems (SNI for its acronym in Spanish) for more than 25 years.

He considers, that when the students are in class, they should have a referent to tell them it is possible to give international conferences, publish in prestige magazines and obtain patents. "I trust that briefly, we well obtain industrial prototypes to be able to say: these are the new optic systems proposed by the University of Guanajuato".

To explain the project "Optical system with variable depth of field", Dr. Ojeda Castañeda mentioned that when an optical system is being formed, there is an image, and that traditionally a lens collects that image; the depth of field is controlled by opening and closing the diaphragm of the optical systems. The new proposals have the objective to control depth of field without modifying the size of the diaphragm.

Dr. Ojeda Castañeda estimated that it is important to try and describe an optical instrument with its response to frequencies, how focus errors influence in an optical system? How can we make the optical instrument immune to those errors?

In the developing project, the main idea is simple: we're going to build a lens that conserves the frequential transference, of the object to be captured, even when this object is out of the plain of the ideal reference to form their image. He detailed, that the new device "democratically" describes the quality of the image in several plains.

He emphasized that the captured images don't seem to have good quality, but insisted that the frequential composition is the same, so they are candidates for improvement through digital means.

Dr. Ojeda has been working in this topics for approximately 10 years. The mentioned patent was obtained four years ago, and some of the results of the research were reported in a book published by an international prestige editorial.

He was happy with the achieved so far, but emphasized his enthusiasm to elaborate industrial prototypes. "Part of my challenges is to try to elaborate a final product, which can be transferred to the industry", he concluded.

Context of the Optical Systems with Variable Depth of field

Four years ago, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted the patent to nine professors of the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, plus a collaborator from the Optics Research Center.

This invention has application in industrial processing robotics, with a greater resolution of the optical systems, which covers the three fundamental features demanded to receive the patent: its feature of world novelty, the requirement to have created new knowledge, as well as it potential to turn the invention in an industrial application.

Dr. Jorge Ojeda Castañeda is a world pioneer in his area, belong to the SNI, Level 3. His research awarded him the national prize of the Mexican Society of Physics and the national prize of the Mexican Academy of Optics.

He has formed in México, England and Germany. Has published more than 150 articles in magazines with strict arbitrage and has positioned as one of the Mexican physicists with more international publications and citations.
