Guanajuato, Gto., May 26, 2017.- The talent of the university community was recognized through the award ceremony of the 15th edition of the Annual Contest of Students of the Department of Visual Arts "Jesús Gallardo", of the Division of Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD) of Campus Guanajuato, contest named to honor the artist of Guanajuato.

In his message, representing Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Salvador Salas Zamudio, advisor of the Campus' Rectory, congratulated the participants, organizers and winners.

He reminded that 64 years ago was created the former School of Plastic Arts by instances of M. Jesús Gallardo –present in the ceremony—who at that time led a group of enthusiast teachers and students that made their legacy of what today is the Department of Visual Arts.

Now, for 15 years, in May, is celebrated a contest that has consolidated as one of the main events that allow to know and recognize the artistic creation of the student community. During the first fourteen editions, it was known as "annual contest of stimuli", to encourage quality production among students of the degree.

M. Areli Vargas Colmenero, Director of the Department of Visual Arts, expressed that this contest is an event that highlights the university artistic production and has a special sense by encouraging a fundamental experience for the professional development of art.

Throughout 15 years, it has consolidated as one of the main events that allow to know and recognize the arduous work of college students, she said, but for this edition, they re-baptized is to homage the M. Jesús Gallardo.

She celebrated the participation of the student community and gave a special thank you to M. Gilberto López Elias, Coordinator of Extension of the Department of Visual Arts and responsible for the organization of the contest; to the curator Paulina Ascencio; to the photographer Lucía Castañeda and the visual artist Iván Puig, "for his relentless work as jury."

She also thanked Dr. Sara Julsrud, Director of Cultural Extension for her willingness to lend the university galleries and Luz Adriana Ramírez Nieto for the exposition montage.

On behalf of the students of the degree in Visual Arts, the young Jonás Andrés Soto Silva offered a message.

Because of the contest, the first place was for Sofía Cabrera López, the second for Samara Colina, and the third for Diego Ramón Hernández. There were five honorific mentions for: Karina Jaime Orozco, Leonardo Velázquez, Joaquín Vidaurri, Claudio Saúl Velázquez & Gabriel Sánchez.

At the ceremony were also present, Dr. María Isabel Téllez García, DAAD's Academic Secretary and M. Gilberto López Elías, Coordinator of Extension of the Department of Visual Arts, also, M. Osvaldo Chávez Rodríguez, Director of Student Development of UG. Teachers and students.
