Santander, España., May 31, 2017.- With the prominent direction of the master Roberto Beltrán Zavala, the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato (OSUG) was responsible for closing the symphony cycle of the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria with a program that included the premiere in Europe of "Lucretius tragicus" of Jorge Torres Saénz; "Concert for string quartet and orchestra" of B. Martinu, in collaboration with the Brodsky Quartet; and "Symphony no. 5 in d minor, Op. 47" of Shostakovich.

"Lucretius tragicus" of the Mexican composer Jorge Torres Saénz was part of the triad of pieces that were requested to commemorate the 65 years of life of the musical aggrupation which inspired in Lucretius, considered as one the cursed philosophers, "key figure in the road to think freely".

It is, he says, of making audible the forces who haven't; is, he recognizes, a dark work in its search, is a strong piece and a proposal of another Mexico in the world.

This premiere is the second for OSUG in Europe, since last May 29th it was played for the first time in Spain, "Las mujeres de Pénjamo. La marcha de las rehenes" of Francisco Javier González Compeán in the Principe Felipe de Oviedo Auditorium.

The piece was well received by the public that enjoyed the impeccable execution of the "Concert for string quartet and orchestra" of B. Martinu, in collaboration with the Bradsky Quartet, whose participation received a warmth recognition.

Shostakovich's Symphony no.5 in d minor, Op. 47 captivated the townsfolk because of the quality of execution of its musicians and the vigorous leadership of their head conductor, Roberto Beltrán Zavala.

Each one of the movements that compose the piece: moderato, allegretto, largo and allegretto non troppo were pleasantly followed by the audience.

After a long applause, the conductor announced the interpretation of one more piece, the Huapango of José Pablo Moncayo, referent of the Mexican classical music.

This piece, based in the Veracruz sonnets "Siqui siri", "El Balalú" and "Gavilancito" won the ovation of a public captivated by OSUG.

The Palace of Festivals in Cantabria is an architectonic and cultural symbol of Santander, throughout the year, an extended cultural programme attracts the most relevant personalities in the national and international scene.

The cosmopolitan projection of OSUG has strengthened with its participation in the cycle of concerts in the Principe Felipe Auditorium and Cantabria's Palace of Festivals, since they are emblematic venues where they present the highest quality musical ensembles.
