Guanajuato, Gto., June 4, 2017.- The University of Guanajuato (UG), through the Direction of Service and Technologies of the Information (DSTI), has joined the project Middleware for collaborative Applications and Global Virtual Communities (MAGIC), which will allow the university community to have wireless internet service in participating institutions of Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Through the work package "Mobility Platforms", which implements the wireless network scheme called Eduroam (Education Roaming), the university community will have the possibility to access, through an institutional e-mail address, to the wireless internet connection in participating institutions. In such way, members of external institutions, could use the service in UG's venues where the Eduroam network is deployed.
The University of Guanajuato joined the project with the signing of the letter of intention before the University Corporation for the Development of Internet (CUDI) at the end of last year, and with it began the research and configuration to implement the service.
Being one of the first five institutions in Mexico to implement the project, the University of Guanajuato was invited to participate in the CUDI Reunion 2017, to know the experience, progress and benefits that the project brings to the institution.
The reunion was held from May 29 to June 2 in the city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco (MX), where several collaborators of UG's DSTI gathered. It is worthy to mention that, as part of the team that is implementing Eduroam in the institution, the engineer Alejandra Ramírez Serna and the engineer Leonardo Arturo Granados López, received a special invitation of the CUDI to actively participate in the workshops and share their experiences.
On Wednesday May 31, it was held the Panel Project Magic, where Alejandra Ramírez participated explaining the technical details of implementing Eduroam in the University of Guanajuato.
Important to mention, as first stage, the Eduroam service is in production at the venues Marfil, Central Building, Mesón de San Antonio and Central Library, easing the access to internet; while in this upcoming October, it will be functioning in all the wireless network access points of the University.
