tercer-lugar-concurso-ensayo-caminos-libertad-universidad-guanajuato-ug-ugto

Guanajuato, Gto., June 5, 2017.- A graduate and a student of the degree in Political Science of the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG) of Campus Guanajuato of the University of Guanajuato (UG), obtained the third place and honorific mention in the 8th Essay Contest for Youth "Caminos de la Libertad", encouraged in Spanish America by the Salinas Group.

We are writing about Sebastián Arcos Robledo, graduate from the mentioned degree, who obtained the third place, while the honorific mention was for Diana Cortés Villalobos who currently is in the sixth semester of the degree and is the first Mexican woman to obtain the recognition.

"Liberalismo clásico y libertismo: Compromisos doctrinales y controversias internas en la tradición de la libertad", was the essay with which Sebastián Arcos won the 3rd place, in it –he says— "was sought to conciliate two postures, classic liberalism and libertarianism, since these theories precede public politics such as the State of Law, as long as it has to intervene to distribute richness."

Passionate for his degree, the young student adds that throughout his essay, "why I try to ask myself is based on these two postures within liberalism, which are opposite in many topics, try to conciliate certain commitments we have. The values will be in conflict, but some things do have in common the role of the State to ponder justice and maintain the law in order and the role of the human agency, of the individual and freedom as a principle of self-determination of people."

For Arcos Robledo, to participate in this kind of contests, allows to "reflect in conflict scenarios (...) based with philosophical arguments in an essay."

Diana Cortés Villalobos participated with the essay, "Una crítica al Sistema penitenciario", where she explains, "you form a concept of free man, man in society and how the penitentiary system punishes men with jail and that is a violation to the quality of the human being, and violates basic Human Rights, gathered in several international treaties and how the sentences are useless, dangerous and how the systems needs a reform to advance towards the search of justice according the actual system of rights."

The young student conceives freedom as "a basic human right and necessary for the development of our personality, to fulfill our goals and purpose."

"Caminos de la Libertad" is an idea showcase for Spanish American youth, where through different disciplines, they express the concept of freedom; particularly in the essay category, they received 245 works from the youth, from which only ten were finalists, among them, the texts of these college students.
