Tierra Blanca, Gto. June 9, 2017.- To contribute to the knowledge of the biodiversity of Sierra Gorda, Sandra Chavero, student of the Northwestern Interdisciplinary Center of the University of Guanajuato (CINUG) made the registry of the Plestiodón lynxe, a genre of lizards in special protection in Mexico, according the official norm 059.

The student of the 4th semester of Environmental Engineering, with support of the Biologist Raúl Hernández Árciga, identified the species in the hill Pinal del Zamorano, a protected natural area places in the Sierra Gorda in the limits of Guanajuato and Querétaro, to register the reptile that in other zones is known as the slant of oak forests.

This reptile is found in the organic soil of the Querqus or oak forest, it is a specimen that measures about 13cm long, grayish back and blue tail, reported in the study to update the Handling plan for the Protected Natural Area of Pinal del Zamorano.

The Plestiodón lynxe is an endemic species found in the states of Durango, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Queretaro, north of Puebla, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosi Tamaulipas and Nuevo León.

With this activity, they collaborate to the knowledge of the biodiversity in the northwest of Guanajuato, within the spaces protected by government decrees.

CINUG is also interested in encouraging actions to promote a culture of responsibility and respect for the environment, with responsibility in using the natural resources, as well as encouraging the formation and update of the university community in the dimension of the environment and sustainability.

Briefly, members of CINUG will continue making field tours to widen the knowledge of the biodiversity in the zone.

Important to mention, in Mexico, the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO for its acronym in Spanish) is the leading instance in the National Strategy on Biodiversity for the preservation and sustainable use of the biodiversity in the country.
