Guanajuato, Gto., June 12,  2017.- With the objective to forma values and aid in constructing an environmental culture in the educational institutions, 89 students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) participated in the project School Republic, during the term Jan-Jun 2017.

At the end of this cycle's activities, they presented works and had analysis tables and project evaluation, as well as a small get-together with students, professors and representatives of the organizing institution: The program of Environmental Handling and Sustainability of UG, the Instituto de Ecología del Estado (IEE) and the Department of Education of Guanajuato (SEG).

The project's objective is for middle school and college students to simultaneously develop generic and disciplinary competencies in environmental matter; the first strengthen their civic and ethical values by working in teams and receive advisory from UG students to protect the environment.

School Republic is a comprehensive formation model in values, that simulates the social-political organization of our country, and where professors, students and parents are involved. Through this program, the students form groups, chosen by their partners democratically to perform in specific positions and make actions in favor of their educational community.

In the term Jan-Jun 2017, participated 89 students from the educational programs at UG: Environmental Engineering, Experimental Biology, Mines, Geology, Chemistry, Psychology, Nutrition, Chemical Engineering, Chemist-Pharmacist-Biologist, Biotechnology engineering and Anthropology from the four campus, participated as environmental advisors (monitors) from the 84 middles schools constituted as School Republics; likewise, 35 out of 61 followed up with the program from the previous term (Sept-Dec 2016).

The 17 cities which were intervened or followed up to the Republics are: Acámbaro, Celaya, Comonfort, Cortazar, Cuerámaro, Irapuato, Guanajuato, León, Purísima del Rincón, Romita, Salamanca, Silao, San Francisco del Rincón, San Miguel de Allende, Tierra Blanca, San Luis de la Paz and Yuriria.

20 professors of the University of Guanajuato were advisors to the students, who research and develop knowledge lines in the knowledge of environmental subject.

The requested topics by the functionaries of the School Republics and researched and presented by the college students for the development of the projects were about: Garden restoration, Vertical gardens with PET bottles, Creativity Fair, Residue Classification, Separation of Residue, Handling of urban solid residue generated in middle schools, better use of organic residues through compost, Environmental problems, Comprehensive handling of solid residue, Environmental education, reforestation, taking care of the green areas, separation of solid residue and environmental awareness, school orchard, Taking care of our health and environment, Encouragement of the social cohesion through the pro environmental behaviors of middle schoolers, Improving the environment, I help myself, Taking care of water, Awareness and restoration of the environment.
