
León, Guanajuato June 13, 2017.- With the purpose to strengthen their competencies and provide attention to patients in the Regional Hospital and Pediatric Hospital of León, students of the sixth semester of the major in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Campus León, participated in the projects "Pediatric physiotherapy" and "Physiotherapy in the critical and hospitalized patient."
The project "Pediatric physiotherapy" was held in the Pediatric Hospital of León where the students Citlaly Torres Camargo, María Fernanda Villalobos, Alejandra Ramos Castro, Karla Sofía Álvarez and Luz Valeria Anda Sanchéz provided attention to 23 ambulatory patients in 103 sessions to treat their lesions, prevent disabling lesions, diminish aftermath, reduce the hospitalization days and educate the families of the patients for a correct follow up of the treatment.
The group of students from UG, being part of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation group, worked with health professional from other specialties such as traumatology and orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, among others.
Citlaly Torres Camargo mentioned the importance of the project since it is "the way to see the real needs of society and intervene to attend not only the pathologies but the patient with a human and professional focus."
Elizabeth Fernanda Alvarado, Katia López Fernández, Xiomara Razo Fonseca, Erika Montserrat Torres and Carlos Eduardo García provided attention to patients in the Regional Hospital of León as part of the project "Physiotherapy in the critical and hospitalized patient".
It is important to mention that both projects were implemented in health institutions where they don't have rehabilitation services, so UG positions as a pioneer by making this type of programs where they made activities focused in covering the needs of the patients in a wide field of action which allowed to know the importance of the health professional in the area and the way it is involved with other specialists to provide a comprehensive attention to the patient.
Dr. Mónica Villareal Castelazo, academic of Campus León was responsible to accompany and advise the students during the interventions made from January to June this year.
Dr. Beatriz González Sandoval, Coordinator of the major in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation of Campus León mentioned that they have already programmed a second edition of the project for August this year since it is the best way to approach society to offer attention, as well as to enrigh the formation of the students and work together with other health professionals.
