Guanajuato, Gto., June 20, 2017.- Mauricio Nava is one of the most purposeful and vanguard choreographers of the new generations in Mexico, besides his intense activity in dance, he is a teacher in the degree of Scenic Arts of the University of Guanajuato (UG).
Nava belongs to the National System of Creators, instance where he is developing a project called "L.E.D.S" Laboratory of Experimental Dancing and Social and choreographic deconstruction.
UG's professor described in an interview his project, which, considers a timeline of three years and covers a large quantity of subprojects, that together, the main objective is to take choreography to society.
One of Nava's interests is for dance to infiltrate in all the community, "let's imagine blocks on the wall, there's a small gap between them, and in that space, something can infiltrate. That is how, I wish for dance to insert society, to smooth things," he said.
For Mauricio, choreography is his profession and life project, but also defines it as an entity with four powers: "the communicative power, the reflexive power, the persuasive power and representative power. I use these powers for my project."
"L.E.D.S" will work with different groups of people, people with special abilities, a group of elders, another of athletes, one more of sedentary people, and a group of professional dancers.
"In different stages, I'll be exploring with them through an own technique that I created in 2000 and it's called NAPP, based in contact, body encouragement and support. Movement is something present in all the bodies, specialized movement isn't exclusive for people who dance, for that reason I'll research with these groups and create a material we can film", explained the professor.
Another job where Nava performs in is video dancing, reason why the results of the choreographies will be registered, to generate visual material of the project. At the same time, the choreographer will write a "Master dictionary of the scenic blasphemies", also the lucid part of the project, "us who dedicate to scenic arts, every day we listen terms we share, I want to contribute black humor and define the scenario, for example, as a space where the egos coexist."
Nava indicated that the objective of dance is the same as any other language, communicate. "Dance is a mirror, ephemeral and remains in the memory. When you see dance on a stage, it will definitely generate something, not all the dance would have to provoke reflection or thought, but it can make you feel, dance has a wonderful power", he expressed.
