Guanajuato, Gto., July 10, 2017.- The Nopal Mine is a space where students of the Division of Engineering of the University of Guanajuato (UG) can make their professional practices as work of subterranean topography or mine geology and can be visited by the public.

The Director of the Department of Mine, Mineralogy and Geology Engineering, Ing. Juan Esteban García Dobarganes Bueno, cleared that the Mine was a donation made by the Mining Metallurgic Santa Fe Cooperative Society of Guanajuato on early 70s for practices, studies and research activities of the faculty staff and students of UG.

With this, they fulfilled the academic objective for the student community to have direct access to a mine and continue with link to other mining companies.

On late 70s, people in the city began to gain interest for the mine, from as tourists, when seeing the great flow of visitors and affirm that the main attraction of the city was mining, --same that supported the city of Guanajuato--, they began to announce the mine so visitors would come.

The Nopal Mine has two shafts, a scaffold, the chapel zone, and the subterranean theater where they offer plays as "Dos hombres en la mina", to mention some characteristics, which allow them to know how people in Guanajuato worked the mine in the time of rise of this economic activity.

"This donation is a benefit for the student community of mines, because they qalso work as guides inside the same, where they reinforce their knowledge and interact with all people", mentioned Dobarganes.

People interested in visiting the Nopal Mine during holidays, it will be open the seven days of the week in a schedule from 10:00 to 19:00 hours to know installations with a tour guide, it is in the Panoramic road to San Javier without number in the km5.9.
