Guanajuato, Gto., August 16, 2017.- While welcoming the new school cycle and give the annual report of activities 2016-2017, the President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, showed the results from a year's teamwork, which allowed the increment in the institution's coverage, reach the historically marginal sectors and position as a high-level university with social impact.
Among the achieved progresses in the last year, UG's enrollment increased 6.4%, the number of academic program reach 191, and the percentage of professors who are part of the National Researchers System grew 15%, resulting in a 55%.
Showing this data, UG's President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, mentioned that these indicators constitute the means to reach the University's goals: accompany the students through their trajectory, achieve they become successful graduates and agents of change in society.
Currently, the University of Guanajuato occupies the seventh position within state public universities, due to the number of programs that are part of the National Program of Quality Postgraduates (PNPC) of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT). And, regarding the number of programs with international accreditation, UG is in the second place.
Likewise, despite an adverse political environment, the number of participants in programs of mobility increased, even with universities in United Sates, since "humanism and university brotherhood is capable to overcome any expression of intolerance or closing", sustained Dr. Guerrero Agripino.
Hence, he celebrated that UG has a specific agreement to attend students in migratory return, through which they could see the first case, a young woman who is now part of Campus Guanajuato.
Referring to how important it is for UG to have a growth in favor of the low-income sectors, the President revealed that they will begin a program to gather funds to reinforce a project of social inclusion in international mobility and the Regional Equity Program, through which they attend students in marginal zones of the state.
Addressing the institutional axis, the President highlighted the progress in the normative reform carried out by the university, process that had the approval of the Organic Statute.
Dr. Guerrero also addressed the great challenges, such as the approval of the new retirement and pensions regime, fundamental to guarantee the financial viability of the institution, process where there are important progresses, so he thanked the work of sensitization and divulgation developed by the syndical associations of the university.
In the academic subject, he recognized the need to increase the levels of terminal and degree efficiency, reason why he announced the subscription to expedite the procedures and decrease the payments, by suppressing requirements such as the certificate of studies, and the record of obtaining the degree.
Making a recount of the achievement, Dr. Guerrero expresses his recognition to all the members of the university community, as well as legislators, functionaries, mayors and heads of the public powers for the unconditional support to UG. This university –he sustained—is State project, which has had the trust of society, that is why we have to take care of it and preserve it.
In his intervention, the Governor of Guanajuato, Lic. Miguel Márquez-Márquez, congratulated the student community for being part of one of the best universities of Mexico, who outstands in the CENEVAL evaluations, and the National Plan for the Evaluation of Learning (PLANEA) and in state and national contests.
Having almost 39,000 young students enrolled in a university of excellence is excellent news, so, he reaffirmed the support from the state government to the university, while committing resources to dignify the venues in the different UG's high schools.
Referring to the alliance of UG with the state government in the Regional Equity Program, he announced that the additional resource negotiated by the UG will be doubled, with the support of the government of Guanajuato.
Likewise, he celebrated the cultural influence of the institution, and mentioned that UG's Estudiantina will be part of the program of Flower Festival which will be held in Hiroshima.
At the event held in the State's Auditorium, the university, student, academic and administrative communities gathered; as well as the board members of UG, unipersonal authorities and representatives of the government collegiate organs of the institutions; former presidents, graduates and representatives from the syndical associations and retirees. Also, heads and representatives of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial powers, congressmen, senators and functionaries from the three levels of the government attended the event.
