León, Gto., August 18, 2017.- With the project "Mini hybrid copper based detector of cosmic rays" three students of the Division of Sciences and Engineering of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), resulted winners in the Expo Sciences Guanajuato 2017, which has the purpose to divulge science and technology to benefit the education, research and promote creativity.

Francisco Javier Rosas Torres, Miguel Ángel Hernández Morquecho and Jazmín Sánchez, worked continuously in the design and elaboration of the detector of cosmic rays with the advice of Dr. Julián Félix with whom they make high-level research in the Laboratory of Elemental Particles.

The three students have been collaborating for two years in developing this technology "that has advantages over other large laboratories of scientific research since it is cheaper, safer (doesn't produce gas explosions), doesn't require maintenance, the principles of function are different, doesn't require electronic amplifiers and operates in low voltages", commented Dr. Félix.

He added, "we are working to perfectionate the prototype and continue to divulge science, knowledge and contribute to improve the education of the new generations, it is a huge commitment, socially and morally, it is a reason to be proud that the students of the University of Guanajuato can and have the opportunity to show what they've achieved."

A total of 27 participant projects were presented in the contest. The projects come from high school and colleges of the state of Guanajuato and the winner projects obtained the pass for the Expo Sciences National 2017 which will be held from December 5 – 8 this year in La Paz, Baja California Sur.

It is worthy to mention that Francisco Javier Rosas and Miguel Ángel Hernández continue preparing and are taking the Master in Physics at UG. Jazmín Sánchez is a graduate from the Division of Sciences and Engineering and together with other six students of the division, they're making a stay in Fermilab, the largest physics laboratory in its specialty.
