Guanajuato, Gto., August 28, 2017.- As part of the actions towards the fulfillment of the objectives of the Regional Equity Program (PER for its acronym in Spanish), there was a meeting with beneficiaries, tutors and liaisons of the program, with the purpose to sensitize them and create collaboration networks.

48 students participated at the encounter of the first and second PER's generations, to whom they gave workshops oriented to human development, "to make them aware and empower them", explained M. Lilia Esther Ulloa Bedia, overseer of the program.

The purpose is to sensitize the liaisons and the tutors of the benefited students; work in the process of the human development of the young students who are part of the program, motivate them, and give them the tools to ease their adapting process to the University of Guanajuato.

The program also seeks for the youth to help each other, support each other and at the same time, generate actions to avoid desertion, since "the objective is to see them with a title", affirmed M. Lilia Ulloa.

Everardo Alba Azpeitia, one of the students who participated in the encounter, explained that the activities help build self-confidence.

He is from Ocampo, and he told, due to their economic situation, this year he was going to drop the studies, although "my dream always was to become a professional in Touristic Resources Management. All my family is USA, and being alone is not easy, but opportunities like this one do not happen every day", hence, his advice to PER peers is "come with all the attitude, be strong."

In the same sense, Ana Rosario Romero Martínez, from the community "Los Rodríguez", in the city of San Miguel de Allende, said these workshops are a great motivation to accomplish her goals, and helps realize that "we can support each other" and grow professional and personally.

The Regional Equity Program is an initiative from UG, who, in collaboration with the Department of Education in Guanajuato (SEG), offers students at marginal zones in the state the opportunity to study in the state university, with no cost and with an economic aid that covers the lodging, food and transport expenses.
