Guanajuato, Gto., September 5, 2017.- To respond to demographics, environmental, economic development and territorial ordinance problems; and open the doors for young students to prepare in a fundamental disciplinary field which until now, hasn't been addressed, the University of Guanajuato (UG) in January 2018 will offer the bachelor degree in Geography.
This academic program will be inter-divisional: taught by the faculty of the Division of Engineering (DI) and the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities (DCSH) of Campus Guanajuato. The places for the admission exam, will be offered this next September 18.
In a press conference about this new academic program which will have a wide work field, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera acknowledged there is great optimism because the doors are open for the younger students to prepare in an important field.
She explained that four fundamental elements constitute the state: territory, population, legal order and government, two previous elements and two constitutive where the "territory" is where an established population must manage and suffer the impacts of the human being's activities.
The geographer, she said, his fundamental function will focus on the territorial geographic space that suffers the impacts of all human activity. Hence, it is a multidisciplinary science, where various focuses such as demographic, environmental, economic development aspects and territorial ordinance will merge.
However, a geographer can do plenty, she mentioned, "before it was divided in physical geography and human geography, but currently, you must study in an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary way," hence, she acknowledged the labor of the team who proposes the new degree, who included two divisions of Campus Guanajuato.
"This new offer is announced with satisfaction, hoping many young students are interested in this discipline", concluded Dr. Rendón Huerta.
Dr. Luis Enrique Mendoza Puga reminded that they worked for three years with the DCSH and university authorities, and now they are in the operation phase on next January 2018, but from this September 18, the places for the admission exam begin to be offered so high school students who are interested in this degree, can become the first generation.
For the moment, he revealed that the classes will be taught at venue Belén of Campus Guanajuato, with professors from both divisions, and when necessary, they also offer classes in the venues of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Also, at the conference, M. Victor Manuel Ortega Chávez, Coordinator of the degree in Engineering and Geomatics at DI, shared the background and explained the syllabus. Dr. Héctor Hugo Regil García, who will be the coordinator of the new degree also shared details.
