León, Gto., September 6, 2017.- As part of the activities of the Permanent Seminar of Work Studies, there was a conference called "Desarrollo de la industria de exportación y su impacto al empleo: El caso de la industria automotríz en el Bajío" with the participation of Dr. Taeko Hoshino from the Senior Research Fellow of IDE-JETRO (Institute of Developing Economies of the Japan External Trade Organization).

In the third session of the seminar, Dr. Taeko analyzed the growth of automotive industry in the country and the accelerated pace it has had in the zone of the Bajío, mainly in the states of Guanajuato, Querétaro and Aguascalientes.

In her intervention, she commented about the factors that have allowed this growth in the region, among them stand out the favorable conditions granted by the state governments to attract companies, competitiveness, abundant work force and commercial treaties Mexico has with its main commercial partner, United States of America, the main destination of medium and small cars produced in the zone, there has also been an increment in the auto parts trade with the mentioned nation.

On the other hand, Dr. Taeko manifested, that there has been a growth in the supply network in this industry, to which she mentions "creates a change in the requirements in the work force with better trained personnel and with higher studies; you need at least middle school and preferable high school because you have to be prepared when a problem presents and adjust."

She also mentioned that Guanajuato is placed as the second entity with the fastest growth in this sector from 2004 to 2014, just behind Coahuila, however, the salary is inferior as those from the other states.

In the case of the state of Guanajuato, the cities of León, Silao, Irapuato and Celaya have the most competitive salaries.

Lastly, Dr. Taeko expressed the challenges the companies face to have personnel with more knowledge and better trained, as well as the options they have, to attract and maintain the adequate work force.
