León, Gto., September 18, 2017.- The "H" building of the Optics Research Center (CIO) was inaugurated with the purpose to commence activities to generate and apply knowledge in optics and Photonics.

The edification of this building had an investment of 130million pesos and has 1200m2, and holds laboratories, classrooms, as well as health, energy, and advanced manufacturing areas.

The President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, attended the event because the CIO is a referent in basic and applied research; and which UG constantly collaborates with a common interest in the direction of research and the diffusion of science.

The General Director of the National Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt), Dr. Enrique Cabrero Mendoza, mentioned that this initiative pretends to make Guanajuato a region of knowledge and innovation, who increases the productive sector and social wellbeing. He indicated that the project is articulated with research and clinical medicine. Also, he highlighted the collaboration of the CIO with other universities, so the scientific progress can be even greater.

CIO's General Director, mentioned that the research center has been working for 37 years with the firm conviction to develop basic and applied research in optics and Photonics, so it can contribute to the efforts of the scientific community to encourage the frontiers of knowledge and its application in the production and social sector of the country.

In addition to the formation of high-level human resources, the development and transfer of technology, as well as the contribution to a scientific and technological culture in the Mexican society.

The State Governor, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, remarked that the CIO is a referent in scientific doing in the state, in the nation and abroad, and it is a pride for Guanajuato for its great contribution to the scientific development, the innovation and the social capital with a humanistic sense.

The Secretary of Innovation in Science and Higher Education of Guanajuato, Dr. Arturo Lara López, mentioned that the CIO contributes plenty to the state by also being a center where the faculty become promoters of science and forge an education with the highest quality.

At the end, the Municipal President of León, Lic. Héctor López Santillana, mentioned that the CIO is one of the research centers that transformed the country through scientific progress, and makes society evolve, thanks to the study of light and its applications.
