
León, Gto., September 23, 2017.- With the purpose to expose new ideas about music, the International Colloquium: "Music in the street and gathering of street musicians" was held and organized by the Department of Cultural Studies of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Campus Leon.
In an interview with Dr. Natalia Bieletto, scholar and researcher of the Department of Cultural Studies at UG, and organizer of the colloquium; mentioned that "the objective is to theme and deepen in the topic of urban musicians and their social functions, really understand the important function these barely known artists, and understand the ways society interacts thanks to the presence of this characters in the streets."
She added that it is about trying to link not only researchers who analyze these cases in different cities of the country and Latin America, but also incorporate the opinions of the musicians, who live the experience of playing in the streets first hand.
During the colloquium, there was a master conference about urban music by Dr. Ana Lidia Domínguez, professor-researcher of the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional in Mexico City.
At the end of the conference, Dr. Domínguez shared: "we must understand how the exercise of music in the street is related to the city, it is a practice from which the musicians give live to the spaces, to the city, and generate liaisons between citizens and them."
Other conferences were presented as well; these addressed topics such as: "La calle y las prácticas culturales en la construcción de los lugares de memoria durante el porfiriato leonés", "Sociología del ruido: De las desviaciones acústicas a la escucha sociológica del conflicto", "La práctica musical entre moderadores de calle y personas en situación de calle".
At the protocol event were present: Dr. Juan Antonio Rodríguez González, Academic Secretary of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, who gave the opening message, and the Director of the Department of Cultural Studies, Dr. Alejandro Martínez de la Rosa.
The international colloquium had speakers from Cuba, Colombia, USA, Brazil, and from several states of the country such as Sinaloa, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Guanajuato and Mexico City.
