Salamanca, Gto., September 26, 2017.- By studying biomedical images of brain tumors, Elisée Ilunga Mbuyamba, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, obtained the Ph.D. in Electric Engineering by the University of Guanajuato (UG) graduating with the "Summa Cum Laude".

Attracted by the prestige of the Division of Engineering, the student arrived on 2012 to study the Master degree in Electric Engineering in Digital Systems and Instrumentation at Campus Irapuato—Salamanca, and continue with the doctorate in Electric Engineering from 2014 to 2017, developing his thesis project: "Brain Tumor Tissue Segmentation in Multimodal Images."

Because of his work and research capabilities, the student concluded in three years, with four articles in international indexed magazines in the Journal Citation Report (JCR) and two JCR articles which are in the review stage.

During his master's, his tenacity allowed him to make a research stay in the University of Leipzig, Germany for six months. This complemented his formation and successfully conclude his master's thesis under the supervision of Dr. J. Gabriel Aviña-Cervantes (UG) and Dr. Claire Chalopin (University of Leipzig), obtaining the Laureate recognition.

During his international experience, he also had the opportunity to make a research stay in the Lawrence Technological University, USA, which becomes a testimony of the international character of the Postgraduate in Electric Engineering of Campus Irapuato—Salamanca.

Since his arrival to campus Salamanca, he was an outstanding student for his capability to integrate work teams and his commitment to study; these, propitiated a quick learning of Spanish, since his native language is French.

Before becoming a UG student, he obtained his diploma in Electrical Engineering (Engineering in Applied Informatics) from the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Appliqueés de Kinshasa (ISTA-Kinshasa), where he worked as an assistant professor.

In addition, he acquired experience in the industry as an informatic technician in the African Company Motors and in informatic systems and database administration at Vodacom.
