Guanajuato, Gto., October 2, 2017.- During the commemorative event for the 285th anniversary of the institution, whose first background was the Ancient Hospice of the Holy Trinity, the President of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, revealed a series of actions towards reinforcing the sense of identity and renew the social commitment that distinguishes this university.

In a public and solemn session of the University General Council, maximum organ of collegiate government at UG, sustained before members of the community that "we inherited a great tradition and a great prestige", and that commits us to act consequently and contribute in the construction of a better future.

He affirmed that the UG was founded not to last, but to transcend and to honor its predecessors. This generation will inherit more of what they've received. So, he revealed several actions within the institution's 285th anniversary.

He highlighted the generation of insignia academic projects, "that address society's problems in a multidisciplinary and transversal way." One of them, is a program for the social prevention of violence, which implies the attention of aspects such as health, addiction, culture of the legality, approach to art and culture.

Another is a program for prevention and support in situations of risk and disasters, which –preventively not reactively—will comprehend areas such as strategic acting in physical and psychological health, subsistence, heritage, legal aspects, studies of soils, materials, environment; culture of civil protections, economic reactivation, logistics, among others.

In addition, he announced a thorough reform to the university social service, to decrease procedures and maintain their essence, with projects that privilege the university doing in benefit of society.

In the same sense, Radio Universidad will also have a reform, which will imply to renew its archive, approach to other institutions and greater participation of the university community.

Other projects are the re-launch of the university Editorial, and actions towards strengthening the presence of the Armando Olivares Library.

To favor the sense of identity and pertinence, they'll seek to settle the university symbols in each venue, they'll organize encounter that strengthen bonds of brotherhood with retirees and graduates and will recognize who stands out for their work and commitment in the award ceremony of the University Merit and Honoris Causa, mentioned the President.

To talk about the most significant facts in the history of the university, Dr. Mariano González Leal spoke; he is an outstanding graduate and former professor of the School of Law at UG, who said that "the institution that emerged as Royal Hospice of the Holy Trinity possesses an opulent history in spirit" and considered that the best homage it can have is "give our best in building a better Guanajuato and a better Mexico, to form better sons for the motherland, of a better motherland for our children."

Dr. José Eduardo Vidaurri Aréchiga, city's chronicler and professor at the Department of Management and Direction of Businesses of Campus Guanajuato; addressed the most relevant data of the institution from the beginning of the independent life of the nation and recount one of the large contributions made by illustrious scholars such as the father Marcelino Mangas de la Rabia and presidents such as Armando Olivares.

Making a balance, he emphasized that UG has significantly widened his educational offer with a high sense of responsibility, addressing the requirements demanded by the present. "The University of Guanajuato, today, still is the educational, scientific and cultural referent of our entity. 285 years of history are proof of its greatness, prestige, and their future of vision", he declared.

At the public and solemn session were present members of the General Council, members of the board, of the university campuses and high school college; representatives of the different collegiate organs; ex-presidents, graduates, retirees and members of the university community. Also, present, were functionaries and members of the public powers from the different levels of the government.
