Guanajuato, Gto., October 6, 2017.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) presented the project "Cervantes va a la prepa", with which the institution honors the humanist spirit of the Spanish literate, while continuing with the legacy of Enrique Ruelas Espinosa, in his 30th death anniversary.
The project focuses in divulging the work of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra among the high school students, through diverse academic activities that allow to revalue the ethical dimension and universal values present in the texts of the author of "El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha".
While giving the details, the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, explained that it is a project within the "Festival Internacional Cervantino", as well as the 285th anniversary of the educational project from which the university emerged.
He affirmed that the best form to commemorate this anniversary is to recognize the people who have contributed in the enlargement and prestige of the university; reinforce the symbols and university traditions, re affirm the institution's academic doing. In this sense, --he highlighted— "Cervantes va a la prepa" covers these three elements.
Regarding the validity of Cervantes' work, he sustained it is timeless because it represents the ontology of the human being and covers topics such as respect, ethics, diversity, peace and justice.
"Today, more than ever, the youth needs the work and legacy of Cervantes", they need that ethical revolt he invited is to with his example and not be afraid of adversity, but embrace it as an opportunity and a challenge, he declared.
"Cervantes va a la prepa" also represents an effort to continue with Ruelas' legacy, who believed in people, in the talent and greatness of its youth, whose calling and vision made this great project possible until this lasting event today, the "Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC)", mentioned Dr. Guerrero.
Hence, he assured that the best way to homage Ruelas "is to continue believing in that living treasure that the university of Guanajuato has, its student community."
At the program's presentation, Dr. Enrique Ruelas Barajas was present, son of the homage person, who remembered his father as "a man of free spaces" and above all, of conviction, which allow them to "go far and beyond, that death becomes a mere accident."
He expressed his gratitude to who allow for the memory of M. Ruelas to be alive, after 30 years of his passing, and he agreed that he couldn't think of a better homage than taking Cervantes to high school, and for the youth to participate in its origin, when the first presentations of the "Entremeses" were held in public spaces in Guanajuato.
UG's Academic Secretary, Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo, mentioned that the best homage for someone who established the bases for the FIC is to return to the origins, to the figure of Cervantes, icon of the humanism, of the spirit of fight and justice.
On his part, the Director of the High School College, Dr. j. Merced Rizo Carmona, reaffirmed that the work of Cervantes reflects an education based on virtue and values, an ideal that the University of Guanajuato maintains, that aspires to a comprehensive formation where art and culture are a complement of the academic processes.
"Cervantes va a la prepa" has seven initiatives to be developed in what's left of 2017 and throughout 2018. The first stage is about student projects; poster contest; contest of a didactic-pedagogic proposal of the work and life of Cervantes; and a proposal of Dramaturgy and Scenic Direction of the life of Cervantes through his characters.
