October 11, 2017.- As part of the Journeys of Science and Technology 2017, which had the axis of analysis of the crisis for water, problems and solutions; Dr. Graciela Ma. de la Luz Ruiz Aguilar presented a proposal to reduce the consumption of water and optimize the use of this resource, particularly in the agricultural activity.

In the community of San Juan de la Vega and before students of the School of Scientific and Technological Studies of the State (CECyTE), she addressed this problem in a fun talk where she spoke about the scarce feasibility of the agricultural production, particularly grasses, due to the indiscriminate use of nitrogenated mineral fertilizers, which cause a negative effect on the environment and the economy of the farmer.

The students listened closely to what the doctor had to say, especially when she talked about the latest technological progresses to identify the needs of the plant through the green index.

Doctor Graciela Ruiz, is a specialist in the topic because she has made research on crop fertilizers. "The agricultural activities have enormous effects on the environment, because the use of agrochemicals pollutes water, air and soil", she explained.

And she emphasized: the use of the mineral fertilizer is not the problem, the Nitrogen (N) is the element that frequently limits the growth and use of the crops, hence, its application is necessary. The problem is in the use of nitrogenated fertilizer with a low efficiency, which causes the Nitrogen to not be fully used by the plants and atomize polluting the soil, air and water.

It is important to mention that one of the objectives of the Program of Sustainable Development is to "improve the quality of water, reducer pollution, eliminate the waste and minimize the release of chemical products and hazardous materials, reduce to half the percentage of untreated waste water and substantially raise recycling and safe reuse of water."

So, the awareness actions carried out as part of these journeys, have a special relevance, specially, if they're directed to the youth who are in a formative process and in who can encourage initiatives with a greater impact to face the crisis of water, mentioned Dr. Graciela Ma. de la Luz Ruíz Aguilar, Rector of Campus Celaya-Salvatierra of UG.
