Guanajuato, Gto., October 13, 2017.- The success of eUGreka, the program of science divulgation promoted by the University of Guanajuato (UG), encouraged the visit from functionaries of the National University of José Clemente Paz, in Buenos Aires, who seek to replicate eUGreka's model in the Argentinian institution.
This program is promoted by the Direction of Support for Research and Postgraduate (DAIP), with the purpose to lucidly and accessibly show to everyone, the work from the scholars at the institution, as well as to awaken scientific callings.
Among the activities, there are podcasts and scientific trips; eUGrekafé, where outstanding researchers offer talks about science in non-academic spaces; eUGrekatubers, where students make videos with the knowledge divulgation, among others.
With the purpose to know these projects in detail, functionaries of the National University of José Clemente Paz (UNPAZ), among them, Dr. Alejandra Roca, Secretary of Science and Technology, visited the University of Guanajuato.
On the matter, she explained that UNPAZ is a young institution, hence, they have approached universities with a solid trajectory and known for their commitment with public education, to learn from their experiences.
She mentioned that both UNPAZ and UG share the idea that the popularization of science allows a wider vision of the world "that is indispensable for any professional and a right of any member of the community."
She thought of the visit to UG as inspiring, and at the same time it allows to dimension the complexity of a program such as eUGreka, that requires solid research teams, an interdisciplinary work, and a link with several instances, such as governments. In all this, there is a human component that stands out, "the commitment from the professionals is very important and it is unreplaceable", she affirmed.
Besides knowing the experiences and the impact of the projects of scientific divulgation, their intention is to know the strategies of divulgation and formation of popularizers of science that UG has started and replicate them in UNPAZ.
The overseer of the Program of Popularization of science at UNPAZ, Natalie Douline, considered that an aspect that distinguishes eUGreka is, that it seeks to go outside the university venues and leave the vertical rigidness science usually has or learning higher contents, and it allows to step into a non-structured, more horizontal ambience. But also, UG has achieved the commitment of the professors with these strategies.
In these projects promoted by DAIP, "commitment is key, creativity is key, and the professional solidity is inherent to an activity of this kind. They are activities that rely on human resources, there is a conjunction of good contributions and that is reflected in the results", concluded Dr. Alejandra Roca.
