Guanajuato, Gto., October 23, 2017.- Jesús Salgado and Jacobo Cerda, an undergraduate and a graduate of the major in Music of the University of Guanajuato (UG), maintain a constant concern for retaking and revaluing among the university and artistic community, the lied, a German musical genre that with time has lost strength in the world.

The college artists define the lied as a vocal-musical genre played only with a piano and a singer and unveils by singing poems in German, "it is a musical genre that has a voice", they agree.

For Jesus Salgado, an undergraduate in the sixth semester of the semester in Music of Campus Guanajuato, the lied, is a kind of music that makes a connection be that you are familiar with it or not, it catches you, but you must be open and perceptive to listen it. You must listen, you can't hear it on the background, it deserves to be listened and meditated, it is filled with things."

And its interpretation is not an easy subject, they consider, "formatively is a challenge and requires both technical and theoretical knowledge in a good level."

Jacobo Cerda, a graduate from the major in Music from the 2016 cohort, explains that it is "a very intimate music that it is not very commercial, but in the poetic and musical sense, it possesses an enormous richness (...) olaying it, is more than an artistic activity, it is about an artisanal activity, discovering the beauty in the small details.

"For me it is a great pleasure to play these works, which are jewels, a fine jewelry," he added.

"As lied players, the first thing we do is see the poem and what it tells us, if we don't know the meaning of the words, we seek them before playing any note, we understand the poem, we declaim it and that gives many hints to play the song. Then we check the sol-fa, the notes and then we can understand the sense the composer gave to the poem, and from there, we see what we'll contribute as interpreters to recite the musicalized poem", added Jacobo Cerda.

The lied, had its brilliance during the Romanticism and Franz Schubert is considered the maximum exponent; this is a genre that it is preferably recommended to be played on a living room to seek the intimacy and connection between the artists and the audience.

The artists mention that currently, there are few musicians who play it in the world and particularly in Mexico is barely known and played.

"In Mexico, we are used to opera and even play other genres, including the lied, as if you were doing opera, you need to prepare and need more knowledge beyond the topic", they share.

For two weeks, Salgado and Cerda traveled to Spain to take an intensive lied perfection course, which was given by Elena Gragera and Antón Cardó, artists considered a reference in the world of lied in the Mother land.

There, they had the opportunity to know this genre in detail, that has, they say, an immense variety of pieces, "not everything is suffering and love, there are also more varied pieces where the adrenaline and emotion mix."

Finally, Jacobo Cerda and Jesús Salgado wait for "the audience to reflect in this activity and enjoy each second and at the end say, thanks music for completing me."
