Guanajuato, Gto., October 27, 2017.- An important bibliographic archive, specialized in engineering and architecture is waiting at the Diego Rivera Library, for someone to consult the books and who may also consult the Guanajuato Collection, which covers topics such as: history, literature, water, settlements, thesis and architectonic models of the capitol city of the state.
Jorge Arturo Andrade Luna, Coordinator of the Diego Rivera Library, also known as "of the venue Belén" of the University of Guanajuato and Quality Liaison of libraries within Campus Guanajuato; explained that they 22 thousand pieces registered.
This archive supports the educational programs taught at the Division of Engineering and Architecture, Art and Design (DAAD). For the latter, the topics of design, art and music are found in the venue Marfíl.
Also, they have 11,314 theses for internal consultation, and since 2016, by agreement of the university authorities, they were moved to the university's repository, which means they are no longer "in-physic", but in the General Rectory's Library System, and the students upload their thesis to safeguard the copyright and avoid plagiarism.
Regarding if they have incunabula or ancient pieces, Andrade explained that at the time, they agreed to keep in that space the pieces from 1980 until today. He remarked that the texts that go back to the 70s and further, are not ruled out, but they are channeled to other spaces for their proper use, and the most ancient, go to Archives and Funds of the Armando Olivares Library.
The ones he remembers as the oldest in the venue Belen, were approximately 10 books of the Lucas Alamán collection, that today, is safeguarded at the Armando Olivares Library.
He mentioned that the books that are for consult, mainly support the majors in Civil, Geomatics, and Environmental engineering, and the specialty in Economy of the Construction, the Master degree in Restoration of Sites and Monuments, the Master degree in Urban Planning, of Property valuation, the master degree in Economy and the Doctorate in Arts.
He also reminded that they have the Virtual Library System, with which the students can access any book they need; they can download it directly through UG's Librarian System, plus they can "keep it" for a later consultation and, at the end of the analysis, they "return it". Many students can see the same text, because UG has several licenses.
These licenses, have a cost for the University, but not for the student, to whom the service is free, and it is used with the student's unique number (NUA) om the virtual library platform.
He also cleared that there was a relocation of collections, which was based in the need of the educational programs and, depending on how they change or update, the bibliography improves every year.
As for magazines, he informed that they receive them anymore at the Diego Rivera Library, but they are still members of the National Consortium of Scientific and Technological Information Resources (CONRICyT), which allows the digital consult of magazines and books, and opens the options for the students an array of possibilities up to 150 thousand information data in each knowledge area.
Now that the major in Geography is about to open, he mentioned, they re-evaluated the material, since every professor that will teach, had the obligation to formulate their bibliography, because for an accreditation or reaccreditation of an academic program, they simply cannot begin if they don't have the bibliography, although, in this case, they already have it.
Finally, Andrade Luna highlighted the pride because the Diego Rivera, is a multidisciplinary library, it focuses in the disciplines of engineering and architecture, but practically all Campus Guanajuato and visitors, have consulted the Guanajuato collection.
