Yuriria, Gto. October 26, 2017.- The project "Divulgation of science and technology in elementary schools of Yuriria", the student of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Arturo Abraham Sosa López, received the UBSA 2017 Award that acknowledges programs or projects for their social impact.

The student at the Division of Engineering at Campus Irapuato – Salamanca is currently taking the last semester of the major in Communications and Electronics at the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies, in the city of Yuriria, where the young student detected that the average school degree is basic (6.2 years), hence, he designed a program to visit elementary schools to motivate the children to continue their studies and encourage their interest in science and technology.

"As we can see, this is a city that needs for children and youth to feel the love to study, and with it, the city can grow. Reason why I proposed to awake in fourth and fifth graders, to augment their trust and motivate them to study a professional career in the future, besides the children learn something new in a fun way," mentioned the student.

Visiting elementary schools, they present projects they can create themselves at home and have the purpose to prove or reinforce some principal of physics (mechanical, electrical, optical, electronic, etcetera), to know the principles of how electronic devices function, or basic mathematics.

The UBSA Award is granted by the "Urbanizadora del Bajío" and summoned in coordination with the Direction of Liaison of the University of Guanajuato. This year, the evaluating committee notified that 24 students and 9 professors answered the summon, and made the decision to declare the professor category as "deserted" since the minimum established was 15 contestants.

The awarded students are Arturo Abraham Sosa, for the project mentioned before, and Nayeli del Rosario Robles Lara, student of the major in Social Work of Campus Leon.

As a reward, the student will be able to attend the 9th Forum of Urban Intelligence and Sustainability Greencities in Málaga, Spain, where more than 200 cities from more than 30 countries will participate, to debate regarding the role of the cities as active protagonists in the global challenge to reach the energetic efficiency and resource optimization.
