analizan-alimentacion-con-enfoque-multidisciplinario-ug-ugtoLeón, Guanajuato October 26, 2017.- The University of Guanajuato (UG) held the 7th International Forum of Food and Nutrition Safety where they addressed important topics about the sustainable development of the nutrition at the venue Forum of Campus León.

Dr. Rebeca Monroy Torres, professor-researcher of the Department of Medicine and Nutrition, was the responsible to make this forum as a representative of the university and as President of the University Observatory in Food and Nutrition Safety of the State of Guanajuato (OUSANEG), in collaboration with Dr. Alex Caldera Ortega, Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Dr. Daniel Tagle Zamora, also a Social Sciences professor.

Dr. Monroy mentioned that one of the main reaches of this event, is to promote the sustainable development objectives in nutrition but with a multidisciplinary focus.

At the opening, Dr. Carlos Hidalgo Valadez, Rector of UG's Camps Leon, explained that this type of academic spaces propitiates the convergence of the substantial functions of the university: research, teaching and extension.

He mentioned that the nutrition professionals in our society are agents of change, not only food habits, but in decision making and life styles.

"The inherent topics to the human gender can never be one disciplinary branch only" explaining the participation of the "Secretaría de Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (SAGARPA)", and the Departments of Tourism, Innovation, Science and Higher Education, Economy, Health, Human and Social Development of the state of Guanajuato, within this academic event.

 

Juan Moisés Castro Álvarez, General Director of Encouragement to the Scientific and Technological Development of the Department of Innovation, Science and Higher Education of the State of Guanajuato, mentioned that for the state, it is an interest to hold these events where they promote topics with an impact in society such as nutrition, and congratulated UG for promoting these activities.

The addressed topics were on nutrition orientation in the sustainable development, progress in the policy to tax sugared beverages, the epidemy of obesity. Actions for prevention and health promotion, The professionals of nutrition in Mexico and Multidisciplinary work, challenges and opportunities.

In addition, a panel of products of Guanajuato: trends and strategies to diminish the consumption of added sugars and a table of analysis on ecotechnologies and health was presented.

Also, there was information about the Latin American and Caribbean Scale for Food Safety: origin and challenges, Obesity, the true pandemic of the XXI century, The importance of sports and activity in the sustainability of health.

Other participating institution were the School of Nutrionists of the State of Guanajuato, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colima, the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas.
