
Tierra Blanca, Gto., October 25, 2017.- Researchers from the University of Guanajuato (UG), decision makers and civil associations, exchanged proposals for the preservation of the natural heritage in the Northeastern part of the state, as well as the Biosphere Reserve; they gathered in the 4th Encounter of Sustainability and Culture of the Sierra Gorda.
M. Dante Acal Sánchez, overseer of the program for Environmental Handling and Sustainability of the University of Guanajuato, accompanied by professors and students from high school and college, invited all to create a synergy with the inhabitants, groups and people interested in the topic.
The Interdisciplinary Center of the Northeastern of the University of Guanajuato (CINUG) hosted the participants of the encounter, where Dr. Eduardo Salazar Solís, professor-researcher of the Division of Life Sciences, presented the development project for the Northeastern region and the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra Gorda.
Potentialize CINUG as an engine of the regional development, is one of the objectives of the project, for that, he asked for help to consolidate CINUG through the diversification of the educational offer dedicated to the attention of the local problems and the sustainable use of the local resources.
Another line of action is to update the diagnosis of the Biosphere Reserve of the Sierra Gorda, generating georeferenced data bases of the soils, vegetations, fauna, water and social economic parameters of the communities.
There are many commitments, some are: create a documentation center who gathers and concentrates the information generated in the region, so it can help plan the development, that with time can create a biological station for the reserve; subscribe 10 collaboration agreements with government and non-government organisms, and elaborate at least 10 productive projects to be developed and conserve the natural richness, ethnic culture, geology, biology, weather and history of the region.
The encounter was inaugurated by Dr. Armando Gallegos Muñoz, Rector of UG's Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, accompanied by Dr. Juan Ángel Mejía Gómez, Director of the State Institute of Ecology, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona, Director of the High School College, and members of the Naná Ubó Sierra Gorda Association A.C., of the Biosphere Reserve, inhabitants of the northeast and authorities of the region.
Besides being held at CINUG, the encounter had two alternate venues in the cities of San José Iturbide, San Luis de la Paz and Santa Catarina.
