León, Gto., November 3, 2017.- Dr. Luxana Reynaga Ornelas, researcher of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery of the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus León; M. Cipriana Caudillo Cisneros, Academic Secretary of the Division of Health Sciences of the same campus and Dr. Carol Baldwin, outstanding researcher of the Arizona State University, were awarded in the AAN's annual conference with the insignia program of the organism Raise the voice.
This program acknowledges the nurses who have designed innovative models for the care and intervention that improve health, cause an impact with policies and prove outstanding financial results, besides employing new and creative methods to solve the challenges of health.
The binational project called, "The sleep disorders and the promotion of a healthy sleep" was led by Dr. Carol Baldwin. She developed and implemented a health program to support health promotion in urban and rural districts on both sides of the border between Mexico and the USA.
In an interview, Dr. Carol Baldwin mentioned that the sleep disorders represent risk factors for the health, and can cause illnesses such as stress, depression, mobility problems, and even obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure.
She added that different population groups don't have a good sleep quality due to circumstances such as noise, the use of technological devices like TV, computers and other mobile devices that are used for entertainment, i.e., videogames, a problem that has collected lives in the United States.
On the other hand, she mentioned the importance of having a healthy diet, have a healthy lifestyle and have physical activity to avoid chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
Worthy to mention, this project has the collaboration of Dr. Sergio Márquez Gamiño, professor-researcher of the Department of Applied Sciences to Work of UG and Carolina Cabrera de la Cruz, who currently is supporting the coordination of the Course in Therapeutic Education in Diabetes, contributing their knowledge to have a positive influence in the population.
