León, Gto., November 7, 2017.- The venue Forum of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), was the stage for the conference "What are the uses of pop music in the processes of conformation of LGBTT identities?" and the opening of the photo exhibit "Singularidad y otredad" that shows photographs from the first photography contest "Diversidad y Paz."

Dr. Natalia Bieletto Bueno, professor-researcher of the Department of Cultural Studies of UG's Campus León, analyzed the role of the pop icons in the conformation of multiple identities grouped in the LGBTT community. She explained how audiences make certain musical characters as their own to create their gender identities, and how through time, international artists such as Freddy Mercury, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Juan Gabriel, Ricky martin, Miguel Bosé, among others, have been perceived.

Dr. Bieletto talked about how different group of people are feel identified with artists of the music industry, either because of how they perform or how they differentiate from other artists.

She highlighted the importance of a greater aperture and construct a safer and more just society, even if today we have a greater openness to visualize the diversity of gender identity, this does not necessarily mean in fairer conditions and the access to rights and safer conditions so LGBTT people live, their sexuality, and express the gender as they please.

On the matter, she recognized that thanks to certain artists in the music industry, the complaints by violation of human rights of the LGBTT community are more visible.

Such is the case of the exhibit "Singularidad y Otredad", a sample formed by 36 winner images of the firs international photography show that gathered the work from 93 photographers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain and Mexico; the latter had more than 200 works registered. The purpose of the contest was to promote respect, sexual diversity and human rights.

The exhibit will remain until November 29 this year, at the lobby of the Department of Cultural Studies, venue Forum of UG's Campus Leon.

It is worthy to mention that, this event was organized by the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Coordination of College Extension and Collective Provocarte, which is formed by undergraduates and graduates of the University of Guanajuato.
