proyecto-de-salud-de-la-ug-obtiene-reconocimiento-internacional-ugtoLeón, Gto., November 10, 2017.- The research project "Different trace element profile in healthy patients compared with metabolic syndrome without Diabetes Mellitus Type 2" received the award for the best presentation in the 19th International Conference about pre-hypertension, hypertension and Cardio Metabolic Syndrome carried out in Osaka, Japan.

This research project is the result of a joint work of professors ascribed to the Department of Medical Sciences of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG).

In such project participate: Dr. Armando Gómez Ojeda, Dr. Claudia Luevano Contreras, Dr. Maria Eugenia Garay Sevilla, also Miriam Sánchez Sánchez, a graduate of the Master degree in Medical Sciences of the same campus who collaborated with the scholars of Chemistry Department of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences of Campus Guanajuato; Dr. Eunice Barrientos, Dr. Katarzyna Wrobel & Dr. Kazimierz Wrobel.

Dr. Armando Gómez mentioned the importance of the research work that allows to identify the profile between patients that have metabolic syndrome and those who are healthy patients, besides studying pathological mechanisms of this illness "is the set of certain biochemical, physiological and anthropometric parameters, the fact of presenting them duplicates the risk of presenting a cardiovascular disease and augments to five times the risk to present diabetes mellitus". Some of the parameters are: have a large waist circumference, present hypertension and an altered lipid profile, explained.

Likewise, he highlighted the importance of the project that began on 2015, "according the National Survey of Health and Nutrition 2006, almost the 50% of people older than 20 years old in Mexico present this syndrome, this is alarming because it reaches epidemic levels and this research has a high social impact given that is trying to attack this problem from its roots".

He indicated that in the project, they worked with a world of people in the range of 30 to 35 years old, to know if there was a difference in the trace elements.
