Guanajuato, Gto., November 15, 2017.- With the presence of researchers, authorities and university community, at the University of Guanajuato (UG), the first edition of the National Congress of Environmental Law and Climatic Change began, and will be held this November 15 and 16.
The event is an initiative of the Program of Environmental Handling and Sustainability, and the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG). The event includes panels and master conferences in four topics: Environmental Law, Governance (roads of the environmental responsibility), Energetic Law, Collective and Diffuse Rights and the Current State of the International Climatic Summits.
While making the opening statement, UG's Academic Secretary, Dr. Raúl Arias Lovillo mentioned that, the Mexican legislation in the environmental topic is one of the most advanced in the world, nevertheless, he insisted in the need to make an effective application, because "to reach greater levels of development in the country, we need to respect the Law", he remarked.
However, he recognized the need to review the current regulation to better face the environmental decay and promote the sustainable development.
M. Miguel Ángel Cervantes Flores, representing the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, considered that the climatic change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, it threatens lives, regular and sufficient production of food, the rural and urban infrastructure, and even commercial operations.
Hence, he celebrated UG's initiative to invite to this summon to people, scholars, non-government organizations (ONG) and environmental authorities.
The Director of the Division of Law, Politics and Government, Dr. Eduardo Pérez Alonso, sustained that UG is always vigilant of the short-term issues in the world and the country, as this event shows.
The problems that derive from the Environmental Law and the climatic change must be taken to an academic, political and community reflection, to reach agreements, joint actions, public policies and university projects, and a greater liaison with the authorities, he mentioned.
Likewise, he recognized the work of the Responsible of the Porgram of Environmental Management and Sustainability of UG, M. Dante Acal Sánchez, to whom he offered his support to make a second edition of this encounter for 2019.
At the opening act of the congress, which was held at UG's General Auditorium, were also present functionaries of several governmental dependencies, university representatives and an important number of students.
