alumnos-ug-ganan-priumer-lugar-ugtoSalamanca, Gto., November 13, 2017.- Students of the major and doctorate in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Guanajuato (UG), won the first place in the VII National Contest of Academic Projects in Design and Simulation ANSYS, whose advanced software were used as tools in engineering.

The first place in the postgraduate category was obtained by Jorge Jurado Páramo, student of the doctorate in Mechanical Engineering in the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, who was advised by the doctors Juan Francisco Reveles Arredondo, Héctor Plascencia Mora and Eduardo Aguilera Gómez, presented the project "Analysis of a plastic injection process by interaction of structural fluid and change of state."

In his project, he developed a methodology that allows to simulate the process of plastic injection in the phases of injection and solidification of the pieces, besides analyzing the behavior of the mold during the process. This methodology can help the producers of plastic pieces to determine the parameters of the injecting machine to generate better pieces, and will ease the designers how to fabricate molds that save energy and resources.

In the major degree category, the first place was obtained by the students Tomás Moreno Torres and Luis Enrique Paniagua Guerra, who were advised by the doctors Abel Hernández Guerrero and José Luis Luviano Ortiz, presented the project "Simulation of the process of electric arc division in low voltage with a variable magnetic field", that reduces risks in the industrial and domestic sector, also reduces the decay in the equipment, thanks to the efficient dissipation of the electric arc.

His project answers to a suggestion made by external consultants of the SCC Group, doctors José Manuel Luna and Jesús García González, who invited to solve this complex problem, and were crucial in the solution's methodology, since the electric arc is the base of many applications in the industry and the risks this take are excessive, added that the phenomenon occurs in milliseconds and reach temperatures up to 20,000ºC, which endangers the security of the places where electric energy is used; hence, the importance of understanding the behavior and avoid important damages in systems with low voltage switches.

The VII National Contest of Academic Projects in Design and Simulation ANSYS was held past October 27th by a summon from the SCC Group, whose President Fernando Balderas López, in coordination with the "Instituto Sanmiguelense de Estudios Superiores" and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UG, to stimulate the performance and skills of the students in higher education institutions, with original research or application projects with a technological feature that have developed one or more of the ANSYS modules.

These works were selected to be published in a special number of "Acta Universitaria", an indexed magazine in the system of Mexican magazines of science and technology, plus, each winner received ten thousand pesos.
