Guanajuato, Gto., November 17, 2017.- "In Mexico, and in our local trench, you can make world-level-high-quality research", assures Dr. Eduardo Peña Cabrera, professor and researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering and member of the National Systems of Researchers (SNI), where he recently reached level 3.

To reach that level, SNI requires for the applicants that their scientific labor is recognized nationally and internationally. So, "it requires work, a lot of time, and establish strategic alliances", sustained the academic of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE) of Campus Guanajuato.

In Dr. Peña Cabrera's opinion, to do high-level scientific research, three things are required: have good ideas and try for those ideas to function; negotiate funds and surround of working and engaged people, "you don't need geniuses", he remarked.

So, he emphasized the role of the students who collaborate in the research projects, "they are who are in the lab trying to carry out what you come up with. So, they have a very important merit."

As professor and researcher, he considered that the academics must be an example for their work team, "it is important that you have credibility as a scientist, if you're late and leave early, it is difficulty they believe in you", you should make a big effort to have good profile collaborators, he insisted.

Dr. Peña is known internationally for his contributions in the field of Advanced Materials, which recently awarded him the 2017 Medal granted by the IAAM (International Association of Advanced Materials).

The advanced materials are those that overcome in properties what traditionally has been used for the last hundred or thousand years. For its characteristics, they have applications in areas as diverse as biology, electronics, or medicine. They're used to store big data, phone's screens, TVs or replace the use of scalpels by lasers, for example.

Regarding the conditions offered by the University of Guanajuato, to whom does research, Dr. Eduardo Peña affirmed that the institution provides a very good work environment, where there's collaboration between the professors and labor stability.

On the other hand, UG also benefits when its researchers are acknowledged by the scientific community, because it eases the access for more support or resources negotiation.

Questioning what these achievements mean, --IAMM's Medal 2017 and the Level 3 in the SNI—, mentioned that the first award was a total surprise, and the second, a natural consequence of many years of hard work. Then, reflecting about it, "you realize the if you did it too, it was thanks to the students and professors of other institutions who collaborate with you."
