dr-silvio-zainaGuanajuato, Gto., November 28, 2017.- Vocation and passion are the main motivations of Dr. Silvio Zaina to dedicate to research, his exhaustive and thorough work have led him to be part of the National Researchers System (SNI), where he recently reached level III, it means, he is part of the researchers who have made significant contributions in their fields of study in the national and international level.

Dr. Zaina is an ascribed researcher to the Department of Medical Sciences of the Division of Health Sciences of Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), his research has migrated from biology and chemistry projects to medicine, and this is possible because his academic profile is mixed and allows him to develop in both areas.

Dr. Zaina's motivation to dedicate to science was the influence from a couple of professors he had in elementary and middle school, but especially in high school, who connected him with his curiosity in research, "it is something that is in a person and then wakes up when it receives the adequate stimuli", mentioned the scholar.

He explained that, to be part of the SNI, the researchers are evaluated impartially and exhaustively by their outstanding peers, thus giving recognition and prestige to their work in any of the knowledge areas.

He added that without the SNI, there wouldn't be research in Mexico, since this system induces his members to develop works in different areas with new knowledge and has an impact on the economy of the country, meaning, it becomes a viable and sustainable economic activity.

Dr. Zaina spoke about his concern for the next generations of students who wish to develop in this area, since it considers that the national educational system is not appropriate to form this kind of profiles, so changes must be made so the young students who are interested have the same characteristics as those of their peers abroad.

He expressed that there are three fundamental problems that limit the academic development for research: one, the students are not used to write, he affirmed that in other countries, their educational systems demand the student to write monthly essays and Mexico doesn't have this activity; two, the lack of the English language, since this language, he explained, is the most used by researchers in the world; and three, is the lack of critical capability, to innovate and seek topics with social interest.

He said that these problems must be solved, because research is part of the development of a country, the world indicators reflect that the nations that invest the most in research, in culture and academic development, are the most successful countries.

So, for Dr. Zaina is very important for the UG researcher to be present in the SNI, because this talks about the academic quality of the institutions, which translates in a series of knowledges and advantages, both purely in the academic and economic level.

He affirmed that UG, with a census of 548 researchers who are members of the SNI, needs to have better quality postgraduate programs and academic bodies.
