signa-la-ug-convenio-con-cesaveg-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., December 5, 2017.- This Tuesday, an important collaboration agreement was signed between the University of Guanajuato (UG) and the State Committee of Vegetable Sanitation of Guanajuato (Cesaveg), which will contribute to make the field more competitive by protecting the crops in the region, mainly making use of entomopathogen fungus that control the proliferation of plague insects.

The benefit for the University of Guanajuato will be a better liaison with the productive sector and the development of professors and students, while Cesaveg will have the technology that allows to fulfill its goals, but above all, society wins with better and healthier products.

Such agreement was signed, from the University of Guanajuato, by Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, Rector of Campus Guanajuato, and Dr. Agustín Ramón Uribe Ramírez, Director of the Division of Natural and Exact Sciences (DCNE).

From Cesaveg, signed the engineer Elisa Ruiz Cobo, President of the Board, Eng. Enrique Rivas Dávila, Treasurer, and Rosa Graciela Zamudio, legal representative.

Dr. Rendón Huerta Barrera highlighted this agreement as the first to be signed at Campus Guanajuato in phytosanitary matter, but now adds to the wo0rk done for more than 20 years with the Division of Life Sciences of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca.

Some of the multiple benefits the signing will bring, she said, will be to increase the relation with the state agricultural-food sector, the collaboration in solving the state phytosanitary problematics, plague and disease control, contribute in the job insertion of the graduates from biology and contest for state, national and international funds, research projects validated by the research users and haver better opportunities to register patents.

Dr. Agustín Ramón Uribe Ramírez, Director of the DCNE, celebrated this agreement that will contribute in a significant way with high-impact projects to make our field more competitive, using fungus that control the proliferation of insects.

Particularly in the DCNE of Campus Guanajuato and the Division of Life Sciences of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, he said, have already produced and used, successfully, several strains of fungus in the phytosanitary control.

"In fact, there is a laboratory of fungus molecular genetics of the Department of Biology that currently has more than 100 strains of this gender", he informed, while he recognized the valuable work of Cesaveg, a civil organization concerned to implement several strategies to fight the phytosanitary problems.

Some of the actions that derived from the agreement, he quoted the training of producers from university researchers, the participation of students that seek to develop a professional activity through professional practices, professional stays, work to obtain the degree and participation in research projects.

Enrique Rivas Dávila, Cesaveg's treasurer, reminded that the first signing of a similar agreement was in 1997 and it allowed to have a laboratory of benefitial organisms, with which they fought important plagues such as Phyllophaga spp, sorghum's brown bug and the grasshopper.

Also, he celebrated, the renewal of the collaboration bases with both institutions, which is fundamental to do with educational and research institutions, since this allows to professionalize the services required by the farmers and the citizens.

Elisa Ruiz Cobo agreed with him, she is the President of the Board of Cesaveg, who thanked the rector of Campus Guanajuato for reaching out and the collaboration, and read the first clause of the agreement that specifies the objective:

"Both parties agree that the object of the mentioned document, is to establish the collaboration bases between both institutions to achieve the maximum use of human and material resources in the execution of action of interest and mutual benefit, related with the academic, scientific and technological development that will be agreed on through specific agreements that celebrate in conformity of the present agreement and with the applicable rules."

As special guests and witnesses: Eng. René Chauran ruiz, Cesaveg's Manager; Dr. Claudia Gutiérrez Padilla, Academic Secretary of Campus Guanajuato; M.
