alumnas-ug-ingenierias-en-alimentos-obtienen-bronce-del-2-college-bowl-en-queretaro-ug-ugtoIrapuato, Gto., December 8, 2017.- Food Engineering students of the University of Guanajuato (UG), brought home the bronze medal from the knowledge contest in microbiology, bioprocesses and chemistry in food called "College Bowl" held in Querétaro.

The team "Bee Power" formed by Monica Lia Peña Galván, Ana Rocío Galván Romero and Paola Itzel Bautista Espinoza, students of the Division of Life Sciences (DICIVA) of UG's Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, obtained the third place in the mentioned contest, which is organized by the Students Capitol of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and the "Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) Campus Querétaro.

The program's coordinator in Food Engineering, Dr. María Elena Sosa Morales informed that it is about a regional contest, in which eight teams from different universities and technological institutes registered; they all are in food engineering or related programs.

He reminded that to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the degree taught in the venue Irapuato, the Food Department organized a knowledge contest and the three winning teams were represented at the College Bowl and, precisely the team that was in third place in the internal contest, is the same who obtained the bronze medal.

This is the second time that the contest is organized by the IFT Student branch in science and technology to measure their knowledge. The sound formation of the students at the University of Guanajuato made them outstand in topics such as food chemistry, bioprocesses, thermodynamics and unitary productions.

During their stay in Querétaro, the students were accompanied by the Prof. Everardo Mares Mares, who registered them in the contests trusting that the students will have a good participation.

The "Bee Power" team came back pleased to have won in a healthy competition, team work and organization ambience.
