Guanajuato, Gto., December 8, 2017.- To work in a coordinated way in strategies that allow to reach the goals set by United Nations (UN), the Council for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development 2030 Agenda was created in the state of Guanajuato, in which, the University of Guanajuato (UG) is a part of, represented by the President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino.
The council is composed by representatives of diverse sectors of society and the government, and among its attributions, the council must coordinate the mechanisms to fulfill the 2030 Agenda; as well as propose policies and actions to achieve the goals.
After taking oath of whom is part of the council, the Governor of the state of Guanajuato, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, highlighted that such organ is duly represented in the business, academic and government sectors.
The purpose of the Sustainable Development 2030 Agenda is to diminish the gaps in inequality, and this task, the government can't do it alone, so they trust in the joint work that allows significant advances in the fulfillment of the goals set by the international community.
It was on September 2015 when UN members approved the Sustainable Development 2030 Agenda, with the purpose to eradicate poverty, fight against inequality and injustice, and make a stand against climate change. To achieve that, they consider the participation of both government and society.
At the event, Lic. Mario Neftalí Chocoteco Hernández, the Joint General Director of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Office of the Republic's Presidency HQ, was present and affirmed, that the 2030 agenda is the most audacious plan the international community has adopted in the last decades, and it implies agreements among 193 countries.
This is a comprehensive agenda, that covers economic, social and environmental areas. To reach these noble objectives, the state of Guanajuato has given a fundamental step by installing this Council, added the federal functionary.
Dr. Eduardo Sojo Garza Aldape, Councilor President of the Strategic Analysis Council of the "Instituto de Planeación, Estadística y Geografía (Iplaneg), emphasized that to fulfill the 2030 Agenda there is an important change, because now it doesn't only consider the federal government, now the state governments and social actors are considered as well.
At the event were present representatives from the public powers of Guanajuato and other entities of the country, members of the academic sector, Civil Society Organization and business sectors.
