León, Gto. December 14, 2017.- Campus León of the University of Guanajuato (UG), was the stage for the State Forum of Research in Health 2017 and the 24th State Contest of Research in Health, events organized by the Department of Health of the State of Guanajuato with the objective to encourage research, reinforce knowledge and recognize the work made by researchers in the area.

At the event, there were oral presentations of research, master conferences, talks and workshops to which health professionals, students, academics and public attended.

Dr. Elia Lara Lona, Coordinator of the Medical Surgeon degree of Campus León at UG, began the forum activities with the conference called "Algunas reflexiones sobre la investigación" where she highlighted the importance of research with social impact, generate knowledge that allows to address the needs of population's health and take health as the main mechanism to contribute in reducing the inequality gap.

In her intervention, she commented that the country is in a epidemiologic transition where there has been an evolution in the patterns of health and sickness, reason why she considers important to know the main causes of death, the sectors that are more affected, plus they seek mechanisms to solve and face new challenges that are present in the population's dynamic.

Likewise, she talked about the challenges the local, state and national governments must achieve the 17 global objectives of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, in which the State Members of UN adopted those objectives to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure wellbeing.

She pointed out that the state of Guanajuato has shown progress in some aspects, she explained that Guanajuato is the sixth most visited city of the country, occupies the fourth national place in the number of education facilities, same that occupies in the evaluation "Caminando a la Excelencia" which is an initiative of the Sub-Secretary of Preventions and Health Protection (SPSS), whose objective is to identify the areas of opportunity to improve the performance of different action programs in their competence.

At the ceremony were present: Dr. Francisco Javier Magos Vázquez, Director of General Health Services of the Department of Health of the State of Guanajuato; Dr. Tonatiuh García Campos, Director of the Division of Health Sciences of Campus León of UG; Dr. Mario Sopeña Mata, Director of Health in León, and Dr. Efraín Navarro Olivos; Director of Teaching and Research of the Department of Health of Guanajuato.
