Salamanca, Gto., December 14, 2017.- Four students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) were the winners in the XXVI National Thesis Contests 2015-2017 for their research related to energetic efficiency and clean energies.

These contests are organized by the Department of Energy, the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy, as well as the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy.

From the Division of Engineering of Campus Irapuato-Salamanca, a Mechanical Engineering student, América Eileen Mendoza Rojas, won the first place in the category "Energetic efficiency" with her thesis "Caracterización del proceso de conversión de residuos plásticos en combustible por medio de pirólisis", her advisors were Dr. José Manuel Riesco Ávila & M.I. Juan Manuel García Guendulain.

In this work, she presented an experimental study about the thermochemical conversion of plastic residue of expanded polystyrene, polypropylene, low density & high-density polyethylene in liquid hydro carburates through the pyrolysis process and determined the physical-chemical properties of such hydro carburates.

In the same category, the student Ana L. Gallardo Gutiérrez won the second place with the thesis called "Diseño y análisis computacional de un disipador de calor para dispositivos LED de alta potencia" and her advisor was Dr. Abel Hernández Guerrero of the Mechanical Engineering program.

In the category "Energetic Efficiency" but in the postgraduate level, a student of a master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Andrea del Pilar Rodríguez Muñoz won the second place with thesis called "Evaluación de un refrigerante alterno en el comportamiento térmico y energético de un refrigerador doméstico", where Dr. Juan Manuel Belman Flores directed her thesis.

In this project, they exposed the main thermic and energetic results of evaluating a new coolant in domestic refrigerators, work that she developed in the Mabe and TyP Laboratories.

David A. Rodríguez Alejandro, a doctorate student in Chemical Engineering Sciences at Campus Guanajuato, won the the first place with his thesis "Gasificación de biomasa: modelado, simulación y análisis experimental", which gave him the first place in the category "Clean Energies" in a doctorate level, under the direction of Dr. Alejandro Zaleta Aguilar, a professor in the Division of Engineering in Salamanca.
