History is a discipline of knowledge with which you can make a theoretical reflection about the past to understand our present better. The research lines of history are broad, and any social aspect can be inscribed in historical analysis.

A research line that is less studied is sports as part of the historical processes, and Dr. César Federico Macías Cervantes has inserted it in the University of Guanajuato (UG), and has even caused thesis about the topic.

The actual director of the Division of Social Studies and Humanities of Campus Guanajuato researches and analyzed the sport practices of Latin America in the X century and the social transformations derived from these.

After he completed the doctorate, the researcher was interested to study sport practices as a social phenomenon, since in Mexico there are few reflections about it. Recently, the University of Guanajuato has incurred in seeing sports as an academic topic to theorize about the transformations in society.

Dr. César Federico Macías Cervantes, mentioned that sports have an enormous possibility of analytical richness, since sport practices many times are conditioned and mediated due to moral matters, social or economic interests and the free time available in the individuals in specific societies.

The researcher, has made the analysis of sport as part of a leisure system that, also gets to be manipulated by governmental interests, regulated by several bureaucracies, and invariably enjoyed and executed by human beings with diverse moods and aspirations. This, determines sports as a total social fact.

Sport is defined by the Royal Academy of Spain as a "physical activity, exercised as a game or competition, whose practice assumes entertainment and rules". The analysis of such rules is what Dr. Macías proposes to help understand the consolidation of the states in the XX century, as well as the consolidation of a human coexistence –sports—that settled according the social systems that were accepted towards the economic, administrative and religious activity.

He added that the reflection before several sport practices also allows to see social exclusion, and as an example he used, the late incorporation of women in many sports or differentiated practice according the ethnic origin or income level. This way, we observe how culture, religion, economy, etc., determine sports as one of the most important phenomenon of current society.
