León, Gto., January 11, 2018.- Dr. Ramón Castañeda Priego, an outstanding researcher of the Department of Physical Engineering of the Division of Sciences and Engineering will attend the award ceremony of the Research Awards of the Mexican Academy of Sciences where he will receive, from hands of the Mexican President, Enrique Peña Nieto, the most important award granted by the Mexican Academy of Sciences, which, acknowledges young researchers who work in exact, natural, social, humanities, engineering and technology sciences.
Dr. Castañeda was selected as the winner by the Directive Council of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC) which is integrated by members of the National Researchers System (SNI) who evaluated the trajectory and work of ninety different researchers from different parts of the country who participated in the 2016 summon in Exact Sciences.
Dr. Castañeda will attend on Friday, January 12, 2018 to the ceremony where the winners of the AMC's Research Awards 2016 and 2017 will receive it in the Aerospace Center of Querétaro.
The Research Awards were instated in 1961 and since then, each year, they recognize scientists under 40 and women under 43 years old who make vanguard research.
The researcher of the University of Guanajuato talked in an interview about the importance of the work done for over 15 years in the field of Physics of Materials and the social and technological impact developed in this area; since it reflects in the everyday life, "the scientific and technological development of any country is based on the use and handling of materials, as long as you can handle them, elaborate, control, you can create materials that can help simplify industrial processes or technological application, then you are making a significant progress for science and society."
He added the need to create a scientific culture that encourages research since "all developing countries always bet to the the work of quality research and that creates and important impact in the quality of life and a nation's development."
Lastly, he thanked for the support from the University of Guanajuato, because it has allowed him to carry out his research work, and sent a message to the students to approach science and value the academic activity, since he considers there is high-level research.
