Celaya, Gto., January 23, 2018.- Jesús Ávila Beltrán and Dr. Benito Rodríguez Haros of the University of Guanajuato (UG), Campus Celaya-Salvatierra, promote the certification from the National Sanity, Safety and Food Quality Service (Senasica for its acronym in Spanish) among the farmers on the southern part of the state of Guanajuato, with the objective to overcome the commercialization problems for their products.
"The problems the greenhouse vegetable producers face at the time they try to sell their products is a fair price because they lack guarantees of harmlessness and quality of the products", explained Dr. Rodríguez.
He added, that UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) points out that the certification of the safe agricultural production inspires trust among the consumers, who are willing to pay a higher price for the field produce.
What is most important for the researchers is for the farmers to widen their chances to place their harvest in stable and safe markets; that move from the dependency of being market managers to leaders in the development of their businesses, which they consider a plus in agribusiness propitiated by certification.
They remarked the case of Mexico, and especially for the self-service food chains in the national market, is the certification from the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fishing and Food (SAGARPA) through Senasica, who promotes and advises in the certification process with the producers, so they can get certified as companies that generate safe produce, applying protocols of the Reduction of Contamination Risks Systems (SRRC).
Senasica certification in exceptional conditions of international shortage is enough to export to other markets; however, if you want to exclusively produce for exportation, you must be aware of the applicable rules in the destination of the produce, thus, the national Mexican certification is necessary to access other public or private certifications valid in the other country, explained the researchers.
Finally, they informed that they are working on a practical and didactic guide for the producers that helps them step by step in the documenting process to submit to hearings and reach SENASICA certification in the least time possible; thanks to the experience from more than 7 years of work with the Society of Rural Production "Ejido de Urireo", in the city of Salvatierra, Guanajuato and other associations in the region.
