Last year's September, the college student was acknowledged by the School of Environmental Engineers of Mexico A.C. with the first national place of the best environmental engineering thesis 2017 in a doctorate level.

The thesis was about "The effect of the nanoparticles ZnO and Tio2 (zinc oxide and titanium oxide) in aerobic biological systems to treat wastewater."

Now, Dr. Avilés rises high the name of the University of Guanajuato (UG), by receiving the first place as the best presentation in a congress in South Africa.

We are talking about the Best Presentation Award, in the 8th International Young Water Professionals Conference, that was held in December 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The presented project was "Potential effects of nanopollutants on biological wastewater treatment" by Pabel Antonio Cervantes Avilés, Junichi Ida and Dr. Germán Cuevas Rodríguez, the latter, also a professor at the Division of Engineering of Campus Guanajuato.

The International Young Water Professionals Conference is one of the most attractive congresses in the world for young researchers in water.

It is a congress for professionals under 35 years old, organized every two or three years with the supervision and backing of the International Water Association (IWA), the non-governmental organization recognized in the hydric sector in the world.

For such reason, they sent the review of the doctoral research developed at the University of Guanajuato to the eighth edition of this congress, review that was accepted on May 26, 2017 for their oral presentation in technical sessions of the encounter.

During the conference's closing, they handed three awards: Best Poster Presentation, Best Thesis Presentation in 2minutes and the Best Oral Presentation or "Platform presentation"; the latter considered the most notably award.

The presenter and the work "Potential effects of nanopollutants on biological wastewater treatment" received the "Best Presentation Award" of the event.

Besides the distinction and the recognition for the scientific quality and skill to show the main findings, they received a voucher for £100 GBP to buy literature on IWA online.

On this platform, you can find books, science journals and technical material in water. It is important to mention that, in the previous edition of this conference, held in Taipei, Taiwan on 2014, they also received the Best Oral Presentation award.

So, for the second time, they obtained the award for the best oral presentation in the world congress of the Young Water Professionals of IWA. The received distinction, undoubtedly, reaffirms in the world the scientific quality in water and nanotechnology research made in the University of Guanajuato.
