Guanajuato, Gto., January 25, 2018.- High School students of the University of Guanajuato had an outstanding participation in the XXVII National Olympics of Biology, held in the city of Chetumal, Quintana Roo, organized by the Mexican Academy of Sciences.

A total of 180 young students from 29 states of the country, of public and private high schools, gathered at the event which created the Mexican delegation who, will represent the country in both the Spanish American and International contest.

The delegation of the state of Guanajuato was composed by six students from different high schools, they obtained four medals in the national stage of the Olympics.

In the competence, Marco Alejandro Fandiño Torres & Óscar Eduardo Romero González, both from HS Centro Histórico León, and Luis Esteban Cervantes Campos of HS Leon obtained the silver medal; Maria José Hernández de Santos from HS Centro Histórico León, obtained the bronze medal. Ramsés Maximiliano Ramírez Martínez of HS León and Juan Mauricio Ibarra Chavira of HS Silao complemented the delegation of Guanajuato.

The advisors who supported the students are Dr. Bernardo Franco, Dr. Vianey Olmedo, Dr. Paulina Guzmán, M. Carlos Araiza Cervantes, M. Juana López Godínez, Dr. Armando Obregón, Dr. Juan Pablo Uchin, Dr. Suiza Vásquez, Dr. Gustavo Niño Vega, Dr. Ruth Reyes, Dr. Juan Humberto Macías, and Dra. Rosa María García Nieto, state delegate of the Olympics of Biology.

The Olympic has the objective to stimulate the formation of the young and identify those who have talent to incorporate the scientific degrees and help them in their development through scholarships, approaching them to the scientific doing, motivating their participation in the "Scientific Research Summer", encouraged by the Mexican Academy of Sciences.

For the high school students, is the end of a year's preparation, in which they went through several eliminatory stages and trainings; the success obtained is the result of the effort and dedication, besides reaching a personal achievement, it contributes to rise high the name of the University of Guanajuato, since every year, the institution has an outstanding participation in this kind of contests.
