con-amplio-programa-academico-y-culturalcelebran-50-aniversario-depto-educacion-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., January 29, 2018.- The challenges that hunt our country nowadays, the hope is relying on education, said the President of the University of Guanajuato, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, during the presentation of the 50th anniversary commemorative program of the Department of Education (DEUG).

The big question is, how can we contribute to this great challenge? Added Dr. Guerrero during the event held at the venue Yerbabuena, where students, graduates, academic and administrative personnel gathered.

This year, the University of Guanajuato celebrates 50 years of crating the Department of Education and 40 years of the Master's in Educational Research, the first program of its kind that was offered in the region.

In this context, UG's President pointed that to commemorate, first, we must homage those who were before us and made possible, the strengths the institution has today.

To celebrate the anniversary, they have planned a series of academic and cultural activities throughout the year, among them is the presentation of the book "Abandono escolar en el nivel medio superior de México. Políticas, actores y análisis de casos", a result of the research of Dr. Marcos Jacobo Estrada Ruiz.

Likewise, there will be a student colloquium with the topic "The education on debate"; an artistic-cultural journey, among other activities.

The objective of the commemorative program is for it to build a shared space to exchange experiences and recover DEUG's contributions and their future projection, explained the Director of the Department, Dr. Mireya Martí Reyes.

The activities are structured in three axes: historical background; acknowledgement of trajectories and characters; the analysis and prospective of DEUG's doing in education (scenarios, possibilities and challenges).

Beyond just celebrating the anniversary, the purpose is to turn this anniversary in a motivation and encouragement to develop a wide academic activity; it is a program that focuses on the students, who will be the main characters of the activities, added Dr. Martí.

Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera, the Rector of Campus Guanajuato, affirmed that "teachers transform a country", so, this university considers as agents of change.

She also reminded that the University of Guanajuato has had a significant presence in the history of education in the country, and congratulated DEUG's community for creating an intelligent and inclusive program "that constitutes a true commemoration."

In the same sense, the Director of the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities (DCSH), Dr. César Federico Macias Cervantes highlighted that DEUG, due to its nature, can and must contribute to the development of the University of Guanajuato and the state.

Dr. Cirila Cervera Delgado, a professor-researcher highlighted that the institutions are not just buildings, but the people who make them. After remembering the story of the Department and its background, the Institute of Research in Education of the University of Guanajuato, affirmed that "the Department of Education has been a sum of wills, effort, dedication, commitments and ideals."

At the ceremony were present graduates from DEUG as special guests, among them the Director of UG's High School College, Dr. J. Merced Rizo Carmona; the Director of HS Silao, M. María Cristina Caudillo Hernández, and M. Sergio Jesús Ortega Mereles, a board member.
