homenajean-con-un-libro-a-los-guanajuatenses-que-han-dejado-huella-en-la-cultura-ug-ugtoGuanajuato, Gto., February 2, 2018.- The State Government presented the book "Grandes Guanajuatenses", whose first volume is dedicated to the memory of women and men who have outstood in art and culture.

The book is a work led by the State Council of Social Participation in Education (CEPSE for its acronym in Spanish), a joint effort of the government and society where the University of Guanajuato (UG) participated as the overseer of the research and compilation of the biographical material of the characters that appear in the book.

During the presentation of the Vol. I of "Grandes Guanajuatenses", UG's President, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, thanked for the opportunity to be a part of this project that reaffirms the university's commitment to contribute to the progress and development of the state, as well as the construction of a better citizenship.

He celebrated this initiative that shows a great vision and sensitivity, because, (he said), the government's doing, goes beyond exercising power, "it implies a vision of the State that includes the society."

Given the effort it took to have the book ready in approximately three months, he specially thanked the work of the university personnel and grantees, who were coordinated by Dr. Miguel Ángel Guzmán López, Coordinator of the General Archive.

In his message, the State Governor, Lic. Miguel Márquez Márquez, explained that the first volume is dedicated to women and men of Guanajuato who have left their mark in the cultural and artistic ambience, such as Diego Rivera, Jorge Ibargüengoitia, Emma Godoy, Tomás Chávez Morado and María Grever.

The governor announced a second volume –dedicated to the great people of Guanajuato who have outstood in education, teaching, and sports—which will be finished by August this year, so it can be ready for the next school period. For that, he requested the support from the University of Guanajuato and the team who collaborated in the first part of the collection "Grandes Guanajuatenses."

Previously, the Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, Ing. Eusebio Vega Pérez, announced that the text was available in printed and digital format, and will reach students and teachers of the state.

This book is relevant for society because it acknowledges the contributions of illustrious people of Guanajuato and helps understand our roots, culture and history, affirmed while thanking all who was involved in the project.

In her intervention, CEPSE's President at Guanajuato, Lic. Rocío del Carmen Rozada Martín, explained that the premise of the project was to identify great characters in all the cities and for them to be a support for children, professors and parents. In addition, the book becomes a tool who contributes to the new objectives of the New Educational Model, she remarked.

At the presentation were present: The President of the Association of Chroniclers of the State of Guanajuato, Aurelio Conejo Nuño; representatives of the state government, of the city of Guanajuato and the different public powers; as well as members from the sections 13 and 45 of the National Syndicate of Workers of Education; directors from different educational institutions; professors and students.
