Guanajuato, Gto., February 16, 2018.- With the purpose to promote the democracy in society through debate and orality, the Bajio's Debate League was inaugurated at the University of Guanajuato (UG).
The event was held at the Hall of Acts of the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG) of the University of Guanajuato, enclosure in which students from different universities throughout the country gathered to participate in the competition.
The Bajio's Debate League seeks to spread the culture of debate in Guanajuato to generate opportunities to form in educational institutions; in addition, encourages the creation of spaces where the young can empower by using their voice and the development of their critical sense.
Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, President of the University of Guanajuato, was who formally inaugurated the competition, welcomed all the teams and highlighted that debating is a fundamental tool to generate freedom and it doesn't exclude any calling or discipline.
He pointed out that debating is an exercise in which you present different ideas with different perspectives and always with passion, rigor, and knowledge without diminishing who thinks otherwise. He congratulated all for participating; with the expectation for the event to be inspiring.
Likewise, the Rector of UG's Campus Guanajuato, Dr. Teresita de Jesús Rendón Huerta Barrera remarked that debating aids in constructing a more equal and just society, and likewise, represents a space where it is possible to express the passion for ideas in ambient of peace and reasoning.
Both the Director of the DDPG, Dr. Eduardo Pérez Alonso, as the General Coordinator of UG's debate team, José Antonio Rivera Canchola; welcomed the teams of students and encourage them to expose different ideas about the same topic and for the arguments to be solid.
To finalize, the President of the Mexican Debate Association, David Alatorre López, mentioned that this tournament is one the largest held in the country, so he acknowledged the effort of UG's Community to develop quality initiatives that contribute to shape a democratic society.
The competition will end next Sunday February 18, 2018; after, the closing ceremony.
