
Guanajuato, Gto., February 26, 2018.- The high school student of Guanajuato, Mariana Alvarez Cardona was summoned to join the under-18 Women's National Rugby team.
The young student at the University of Guanajuato (UG) received notification from the President of the Mexican Rugby Federation, A.C. Francisco Echeguren to participate in the upcoming Youth Olympic games Rugby Qualifiers, a qualifying tournament for the Olympic Youth Games to be held from March 1 to 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
Thanks to her effort, constancy and discipline, Mariana Alvarez Cardona has become the first female player of the University of Guanajuato to be a selected national, which makes the institution proud.
Rugby is a contact sport born in England. From childhood to now in her youth, Mariana has been interested in this sport thanks to the influence of her father, who is passionate about Rugby and currently trains the women's team of "Las Abejas."
The UG student said "I am training for the state classification, I have also participated in junior and university tournaments. In addition, I am part of the Abejas team of UG, where they probably observed me, they saw my level and I was called for the national women's selection. "
She said she is excited to participate in the international tournament in Las Vegas, as it is held to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games, venue still to confirm but will surely be held in Argentina.
"I will travel with several players from all over the Republic to Las Vegas, for me it is a very significant thing because the fact that I have considered to be part of the national team fills me with satisfaction. Besides, since I can remember this sport is very important in my life, "said Mariana Alvarez.
He said that what he likes to practice Rugby is that he promotes a lot of unity and fellowship, "there must always be communication between all members of the team and we are accompanying us, supporting us and so we can have a good coexistence. If you can practice it, try it."
