Guanajuato, Gto., March 1, 2018.- The team of students of the University of Guanajuato (UG) Campus Guanajuato, left in high the name of this house of studies by participating in the League of Debate of the Bajío and achieve the championship in the category "Tournament of speeches", to be among the "best debaters" from the competition and take honorable mentions.

In addition, the University of Guanajuato shone in the organization of this contest that took place from February 16 to 18, since, among the organizing team, judges and debaters, participated in the league around 140 people, which turned the tournament as the largest national of this category that has been made in Mexico so far.

José Antonio Rivera Canchola, an eighth semester law student of the Division of Law, Politics and Government (DDPG) of Campus Guanajuato, is the General coordinator of the debate team, and is part of the national championship organizing team that will occur in July of this year.

Rivera explained that the debate team has about three years of forming and currently integrates students of the degrees in tourism, economics, law, public administration and political science, among others, because it is a space open to any division, for now, Campus Guanajuato.

They held a debate contest in British parliamentary model, which is used at university level, is the second tournament in the state of Guanajuato with this model and the first national scale; since being part of the organizing team of the national championship of debate to be held in July, they allied with several people to make the debate League of the Bajío which, despite its name, is a national scale tournament.

In this first edition, they had the presence of 16 universities, among them the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Monterrey, Mexico City, Santa Fe and Toluca, as well as Universidad de Guadalajara, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Universidad Iberoamericana León, Universidad de Puebla y Autónoma de Zacatecas.

Rivera stressed the good representation of the different regions of Mexico and the attractiveness of the event because thanks to the University of Guanajuato, there was no inscription, since the UG sponsored the spaces, prizes and even the best debaters and judges on the first day, plus they were given tickets for the OSUG concert.

Finally, he explained that in these debate models there is a main tournament; A Masters Tournament (dedicated to the judges) and the speech tournament focused on oratory, of which the UG was champion.
